MICROCAMPUS

The Microcampus program at Shanghai American School is an opportunity for 16 grade 8 students to venture outside the "bubble" of Shanghai and spend 28 days in Xizhou, Yunnan. This program allows students to become more aware of their impact, step outside their comfort zone, expand their intercultural understanding, and experience more personal growth. This program has been led by teachers Craig Tafel and Hai Sam Mai since 2012 and still continues on twice a year for the Puxi and Pudong campus of SAS.

During every single day of Microcampus, students are learning and gathering new information and advice from the residents in Xizhou. They obtain the opportunity to observe a culture unlike their own and step outside their usual schedule to learn independently. Microcampus does not build character, it reveals it, and it is a learning experience unlike any other.
